.Mixtape: Oddisee- Odd Renditions

Oddisee hits the mark again with this short 4 track album full of his best talents: production, samples, & rhymes.  Seems like everything he makes is becoming more concise and refined, truly emerging into his own sound as a super-versatile artist.

Here’s the music he began this project with: Originals             01 Paralyzed - Bon Iver ‘re: Stacks’    02 The Gold Is Mine - Metronomy ‘We Broke Free’     03 Ain’t That Peculiar - Marvin Gaye ‘Ain’t That Peculiar’     04 Man I Use To Be - K-Os ‘Man I Use To Be’

.Mixtape: Wiz Khalifa- Taylor Allderdice

Maybe the feedback from his last mixtape: Cabin Fever, got back to Wiz Khalifa.   That the project felt rushed, non-fluid and too off course from the Kush & O.J. vibe many fans had come to enjoy.  Although this is the first full mixtape effort since Cabin Fever, Wiz rhymes have been spreading all over the hip hop game and I’ve been wondering where exactly his sound is going. It’s felt as if his new trendy listeners like a sound that his old fans don’t. With that being said, this new mixtape, Taylor Allderdice offers the new and old sounds of Wiz Khalifa, so there’s a track on there for everyone.  Take a listen below.

.Mixtape: Elle Varner- Conversational Lush

This tape is a delightful blend of new soul, new sounds, with an uplifting, even humorous down to earth feel.  It’s been awhile since I’ve discovered a new female RnB artist that really stood out to me. Her smooth vocals take the listener through the many emotions of a Murphy’s-law style day of misfortune “WTF”, to triumphant rock-style ode to her own success as a woman “32 Flavors”.  Elle Varner is a name to watch in 2012. Enjoy!

.Audio: Lupe Fiasco- - The End Of The World!

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

After my initial let down from Lupe Fiasco’s third album, Lasers, I kept giving it more and more tries, then ended up reverting back and just playing his older albums and mixtapes.

Until his traditional Thanksgiving mixtape of 2011 Friend Of the People: I Fight Evil dropped!  Talk about new-age beat selection that matches Lupe’s energy and dynamic delivery on the tracks! But, don’t get lost in the heavy hitting dubstep- electro beats, because his lyrics are 100% Lupe, filled with messages, metaphors and means for repeats.  When I listened to the album this morning, I wasn’t sure which track I would select to post as the best.

Then I heard LUPE over M83- Midnight City, on the final track called “End Of The World”, and lost it. The combination of vocals and lyrics that he has added serve as a perfect musical and genre collaboration. Lupe sounds relaxed, the sound that label executives took away from his album.  Enjoy!

.Mixtape: ASAP Rocky- LiveLoveA$AP

::MIXTAPE OF THE WEEK::

3 Million Dollars deal with RCA, 3 Million new listeners, and an invite from Drake to join the ‘Club Paradise’ tour, its a good week for ASAP Rocky.  With the release of his anticipated mixtape: LiveLoveA$AP on Halloween, the young Brooklyn artist is creating a bang in your stereo as well as on the hip hop radar.

The tape opens heavy with swag, instruments, chopped and screwed choir vocals and immediately lets the listener know, that ASAP will have a distinguished presence throughout the tape.

ASAP’s sound grabs influence from a variety of successful artists of of past and present. You can hear his fusion of ‘trill’ beats with a ‘Kush & Orange Juice’ type of spacey, smoked out vibe.  In other songs, you can hear rhymes resemebeling Big Sean’s style, while other songs make you want to bust out in a slow dougie.  What stands out on this project are the variety of dope ass beats that are all compiled by producers of whom I haven’t heard of before. Production props are due to: Clams Casino, Ty Beats, Schoolboy Q, Olympicks, Lyle, Spaceghost, Soufein3000, Beautiful Lou, and DJ Burn One.

Whether his style is original or borrowed, ASAP is doing something right.

.Mixtape: Knxwledge- HexualSealings.EP.1.5

This is the second edition of Hexual Sealings by Knxwlegde that I have posted on the site, his mellow chopped and screwed approach to making beats really catches my attention, making his music great to play in the background while watching cleaning on a Sunday.. or doing just about anything else when you need some smooth shit. Like what you hear? Visit the link below to keep listening to his beats.

Full Crate - Golden Glasses

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

With Golden Glasses Full Crate takes the listeners to the dancefloor off course in his own groovy way. Various styles of tracks

Full Crate is on the forefront of Dutch progressive electronic music. Also the Red Bull Music Academy acknowledged his talents and invited him to come together with likeminded people for two weeks worth of recording sessions, lectures by musical luminaries, and late night jams (only 60 artists worldwide has received this invitation).

Since the buzz, which started in 2009 with his independent free release of “She was Fly” Full Crate has worked with artists like Eric Roberson, AB (Black Milk), Ntjam Rosie, Daru Jones, Jesse Boykins III and others. [Soundcloud.com]

“Cherry Hats” featuring samples from the track “Liquid Love” by Chris Turner is my personal pick from the mix!   Enjoy!

.Mixtape- Sir Michael Rocks: Premier Politics

I have been a fan of the work that Sir Michael Rocks (formerly known as ‘Mickey’, 50% of the group The Cool Kids) has been doing as a solo artist.  This tape is a nice look for Hip Hop this week. The lyrics are young and playful, teetering between an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the next.  The beats span from heavy bass to mellow coasting music.  Enjoy.

.Mixtape: the norman rockwell beat tape

Blu has been outputting a ton of new projects lately.  His latest beat tape: “the norman rockwell beat tape”, dropped last night under his strictly-producer name: GodLeeBarnes.  It’s a 10-track mainly instrumental tape but contains vocals on three of the songs. I always like the vibe of his production, it’s got a feel-good spirit and simplicity that makes it of a lasting quality.  Enjoy.

.Mixtape: Khari Mateen- KHARI

This mixtape is a true gem of soul, funk and beautiful music altogether.  Khari Mateen has collaborated with the likes of The Roots, Jill Scott, Dice Raw and his own band Elevator Music.  The man has an astute sense of what good music is, and of himself and his own versatility as an artist.  On this EP, he takes us through tracks that are super funky blends of soul and groove, into other more simplistic piano instrumentals.  Been on repeat in my office since Monday, great for the work zone, ENjoY!

Khari Mateen is no stranger to the industry. His musical stylings are peppered in the work of a number of well-known acts including The Roots, Jill Scott, Dice Raw and his band, Elevator Fight. But this project—his first independent venture— he takes more personally, and rightfully so.

The last nine months have taken him on a journey with echoing themes of deep love, expression and self-discovery. Mateen, who picked up his first instrument at age six and has been speaking through music ever since, funneled them into making a project that reveals who he is both as a person and an artist. The end result is this self-titled solo debut: seven bold tracks that layer original, unapologetic lyrics over his already distinct production style.

Khari delivers a diverse blend of sounds, taking us from “SAY IT AGAIN!!!,” a funk-filled blitz showcasing his instrumentation, to “Mother,” a down-tempo, nostalgic tribute to the woman who raised him. Each of the tracks may stem from different places in Mateen’s life, but collectively, act as one chapter in an ever-evolving musical story. In it, he weaves signatures you can always expect from him, now and in the future: organic sounds and honest sentiments.

This is Khari.  [http://shop.thelunchroom.com/album/khari]

.Mixtape: Hazel + Slakah the Beatchild - THIS

A new instrumental collaboration project from Canadian beat maker Slakah the Beatchild and French producer Hazel.  The result is an excellent 6 track mix of mellow hip-hop flavor with a lounge-vibe.
